FAQ
1. Not sure what class to take, NRA or personal group or one on one class? If you're new to firearms, then I recommend taking the 1 on 1 class or the NRA class. If you are already comfortable handling a gun and have shot before the group class will suffice.
2. How long is the class? The NRA class is about 8 hours long. The personal classes run between 4 and 6 hours. This does not include travel time to the range.
3. How old do you need to be to take the class? I've had individuals take the class as young as 18. However, you must be 21 to apply for your license.
4. How soon must I apply for my license after the class? The certificate you get does not expire so there is no time limit.
5. I do not own a gun can I still take the class? Yes, I have loaner guns for you to borrow. The only thing you'll need to do is buy a box of ammunition. Prior to the class make contact with me and tell me which type of gun you want to borrow so you can purchase the correct ammunition. I have a .38 revolver and two 9mm semi-automatic handguns for loan.
6. You are not really looking for a concealed weapons permit, but there are guns in the house, and you want to learn how to handle and shoot a gun. What class should you take? Take the firearms familiarization class.
7. Where do you conduct your live fire exercises? It all depends on where the class takes place. The places I have used in the past are the Police Hall of Fame Shooting Center, Titusville, FL; Gander Mountain Firing Range, Lake Mary, FL; Shoot Straight Shooting Centers, Casselberry and Apopka, FL.
8) What do I get after I complete the class? You'll get a certificate that will state you met the requirements to apply for the Florida Concealed Carry Weapons Permit.
9) Can I take a portion of this class online? Yes, go to www.flccwpacademy.com. Students can take my exact class from home online. Once the online portion is completed you will schedule a time to meet me at the range where you will need to show me that you are able to safely handle and shoot a firearm. You can also request the assistance of another certified firearms instruction, but that instructor must be willing to sign my training form.
